Accounts Manager (Maternity Cover)

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced, proactive and highly organized Accounts Manager to join our team on a maternity cover basis. This is a senior position requiring someone who is self-motivated, able to work on their own initiative and committed to delivering high standards of accuracy and customer service.

The successful candidate will play a key role in the day-to-day financial operations of the business, ensuring that accounting processes are completed efficiently, accurately and in compliance with statutory requirements.

Excellent communication skills are essential, as the role involves regular interaction with customers, suppliers and colleagues across multiple departments, including Goods In, Dispatch and Purchasing. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful contribution within a growing business.

Job Key Tasks and Responsibilities

The Accounts Manager will be responsible for the oversight and management of the following key areas:

1. Customer Accounts

  • Process and batch customer invoices daily.
  • Allocate and reconcile customer payments.
  • Issue invoices and statements accurately and on time.
  • Monitor outstanding debt and proactively pursue overdue accounts (60+ days).
  • Resolve customer account queries promptly and professionally.

2. Supplier Accounts

  • Download supplier invoices daily.
  • Accurately process purchase invoices.
  • Reconcile supplier statements with Orderwise on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare and process weekly supplier payment runs.
  • Maintain and update proposed payment schedules.

3. Banking

  • Manage the day-to-day banking activities of the business.
  • Record customer receipts and process bank lodgments.
  • Manage petty cash and change requirements where applicable.
  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations accurately and within agreed timescales.

4. Legal & Financial Compliance

  • Prepare and submit VAT returns.
  • Process PAYE and pension reporting.
  • Complete FCA reporting requirements.
  • Submit Government statistical surveys as required.
  • Manage Republic of Ireland VAT reporting where applicable.
  • Ensure all statutory submissions are completed accurately and on time.

5. Year-End Accounts

  • Prepare all year-end financial information for the company's accountants by the end of January.
  • Review nominal ledger accounts regularly to ensure accurate financial posting.
  • Assist with year-end queries and supporting documentation.

6. Accounting Systems

  • Process purchase invoices.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records within the company's accounting systems.
  • Support the continuous improvement of financial processes and procedures.

7. Communication & Teamwork

  • Respond professionally and promptly to telephone and email enquiries.
  • Build strong relationships with customers and suppliers.
  • Liaise effectively with colleagues across all departments to support business objectives.
  • Provide administrative and financial support to the wider management team as required.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience in a senior accounts or finance role.
  • Strong knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting procedures.
  • Excellent attention to detail and high levels of accuracy.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise workload effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience using accounting software.

Desirable

  • Experience with Orderwise and DWTools.
  • Knowledge of VAT, PAYE, pension administration and statutory reporting.
  • Experience preparing year-end accounts for external accountants.
  • AAT qualification or equivalent accounting experience.
